Taki House Boys School is also famous for its reunion festival with its students from 1968 to present. It said that beside the present batches, ex-students are also very famous for their sporting abilities –specially the 1995 Madhyamik (Secondary) batch.
Along with good relationships as well as deep mutual bonding among the batch mates, they have never taken aback to support each other at crucial times during their busy schedule in work places. They keep regular contacts with each other and very often organize holiday tours nearby locations of Kolkata. But above all this particular batch mates regularly participate in both indoor (Carom, Chess, Ludo) and outdoor games (Football, Cricket, Badminton), organized by either school or reunion committee. Despite all 1995 batch mates being presently in their mid-forties, they are two times champion in the football tournament. Other batches always praise them for their outstanding sporting abilities and skills. Even juniors are also fond of them.
Very recently, the 1995 Madhyamik batch divided themselves into three teams (‘95A, ‘95B &’95C) and organized a football tournament. As the selection of the players occurred by a neutral as well as random lottery system, Team ‘95B did not get any so-called positive strikers. On the other hand other two teams (‘95A and ‘95C) were comparatively well-balanced.
The tournament was held in school ground on 1st June 2025. Three teams played a 1st round in group league format and the top two teams advanced to the Final. It was decided that all matches would consist of two 10-minute halves with a 5-minute break in between. Each team got separate jerseys – Black for Team ‘95A, Sky Blue for Team ‘95B and Deep Green for Team ’95C.
Match No. 1
Team ‘95A vs Team ‘95C
Both teams were strong and consisted of a number of skilful players. The match was running very interesting as well as competitive but it inclined to Team ‘95A when Rajdip cleverly headed the ball home and took a lead. Despite Team ‘95C fighting back, Subhabrata’s chip beat the goalkeeper and made the lead double. Team ‘95A won the match by 2-0. The scoreline can be 3-0, if Rajdip could score but his shot hit the post however the goalkeeper was completely beaten…so unfortunate!
Match No. 2
Team ‘95B vs Team ‘95C
After a loss in the first match, Team ‘95C must win this game. But Surajit’s performance stunned the entire audience. He chipped the ball to the opponent’s goal from own penalty box and beat the goalkeeper. Later he scored another similar one but the goal was disallowed. ‘95C tried a number of times to equalize but Partha Sarathi, Goalkeeper of Team ‘95B made some remarkable saves to retain the single goal lead till the final whistle. Team ‘95B won by 1-0.
Match No. 3
Team ‘95A vs Team ‘95B
As both teams were already reached in the final, the match was taken lightly. Both opponents used mainly their reserve bench. Timing of the match also decreased. It had only two 5-minute halves with a minute break in between. However shorter the match was good, both teams got some chances to score but finally the match was ended with a goalless draw.
Match No. 4
THE FINAL
Team ‘95A vs Team ‘95B
Both teams reached the final with a win and a draw to face each other once again. Team ’95A was looking for an early goal but Surajit’s magical performance continued. Two of his long shots found the opponent’s net very quickly, followed by Tanay’s one. So before the half time Team ‘95B could achieve a comfortable 3-0 lead.
After restart Team ‘95A tried a lot to come back. Despite Partha’s absence under the bar post the robust defense of Team ‘95B made them fail to score. At last a few minutes before the final whistle, Arindam managed to pull back the consolation one for Team ‘95A. Team ‘95B won the final by 3-1.
It was a real tough tournament as well as very much enjoyable. All four matches of the tournament were controlled by a professional referee. There were good arrangements of exciting prizes for Best Player, Top Scorer, Best Goalkeeper and Best Emerging Player along with medals for Champion, Runners and Third Placed Teams. Despite Team ‘95B made the final triumph, after the tournament all three teams were so happy and shared good wishes with each other. All are old friends and kept their unity strong.
Bengali Newspaper “Jago Bangla” published the success of Team ‘95B on 3rd June 2025.
By arranging this tournament so successfully, Taki House Boys School 1995 Madhyamik Batch presented their sporting ability and spirits once again to all. It is a real fact that they are always ready to prove that “Age is just a number”.
